Yes, that’s right: Nintendo has launched a new Pokémon game! Because Pokémon Go, a mobile application, released in 2016, was a huge success, the franchise’s popularity has grown. Therefore, a similar game for Nintendo’s latest console, the Nintendo Switch, is created: Pokémon Let’s Go!
The game has been out for less than a week now and contains two editions: Pikachu and Eevee. According to which version of the game you purchase, you are playing with either of these Pokémon. The unique aspect of this game is the interactivity with mobile app Pokémon Go. Both games function perfectly fine on their own. However when playing both, extra value is added to the experience of the app and the console version. For example, when catching a Pokémon through Pokémon Go on your phone, you can transfer it to Pokémon Let’s Go.
Critics’ reviews of Pokémon Let’s Go
Critics are not all too excited about the new release, even though it has new features as mentioned above. The map is the same as in previous Pokémon games and storylines are the same or very familiar. This works two ways: the positive effect is that it creates a feeling of nostalgia, on the other hand, you get a ‘been there, done that’ feeling. Another positive feature is the incredible quality of the graphics. The complete Pokémon world get brought to life through this new game. Lastly, a fun aspect is that Pokémon in Pokémon Let’s Go are caught the same way as in Pokémon Go: circles appear and you must catch a Pokémon by throwing a Pokéball in its direction.
Fans of the Pokémon franchise are excited as ever and sales have been positive: in the UK, both versions of the game combined sold 116,000 copies in its first week. However, previous Pokémon games’ sales performed better. What fans most love about the game are the quality and nostalgia. Many people grew up with Pokémon games, tv series and film and therefore are excited to return to the world of these exciting creatures.
